Module 3: Outcome #5 Students will construct all types of valid and reliable assessments and evaluate the results, checking for alignment and bias.
The selected response test was a challenge to complete with math problems of addition and subtraction. I realized how my blue print really had too many questions listed. I quickly realized how the different standards required student to think differently. I was then on the right path to meeting the needs of the assessment with each of the different type of questioning meeting the verbs that students needed to complete on their assessments. I felt like it was a little too long to give to students at one time, but it would give a good measurement of student knowledge.
The written response assessment was when I really thought I was crazy the way I completed my blueprint. This is the moment when I really realized the importance of all of this class and the blue print idea. I was thinking of how could math be written response, but it was filling in the blanks without choices. I wanted to make sure I required students to complete the activities that match the verbs in the standards, so it took a little longer than I had thought. This part of the course was most influential to my teaching. I was helping a teammate complete a test for math, and I was recalling all of this information. Then, I went to the ELA teachers about their exit tickets they have been creating. I shared the information from the book and what I had learned by working on these blue prints. I pointed out so many factors of the assessments not being what they should be. I really began to think if what we had been doing was a good measurement of student ability.
