Module 5: Outcome #5 Students will construct all types of valid and reliable assessments and evaluate the results, checking for alignment and bias. Outcome#7 Students will determine the assessment types for an approved course plan and design all summative assessments in detail for a unit of study. Outcome #8 Students will evaluate the authentic assessments they created, justify the alignment and revise as needed
The oral communication assessment was a fun one to think about. I had used this before. We called it a video diary of what they had learned. The kids were excited to show their skills through a fun way. It was so much better than paper/pencil work. I was excited because the students got to use their electronics for something different. I really like the way this kind of assessment goes because you can hear the thought process the kids have as they work through math. They must explain how they got to their answers and the process. This is the best way to measure mastery over the skill. I think this type of assessment is great for formatives as the lessons are progressing to see which students are ready to move on and which are needing some extra help.
ALL assessments put into ONE!
When I completed all assessments and put them into one document, I was amazed at the work I had put into the big unit outcome. I immediately thought i should start working on this for other math units I'm going to be teaching so I can make sure they are exactly what they need to be. I started sharing with my team the variety of test types, they types of questions, the target type, and so on. I really need to do better for my student's sake at making authentic assessments that meet the needs of the verbs in the standards and the needs of the students.
